Globo News interviewed Jorge Dib, ROI Latam managing director, on the consequences of the economic downturn to executive jobs. According to a survey made by XL7, owner of Mercadometro, 87.000 senior executive positions disappeared in the first half of 2018. Specifically some areas suffered more than others. Retail saw more than 40.000 jobs disappear. Administrative, finance and marketing managers were also hit harder than other functions with a net loss of 42.3 thousand jobs. When it comes to a regional view the Southeast region had the bulk of job losses. It can be considered “natural” given its importance as the biggest economic region in Latin America with most companies there. The region lost 47.3 thousand jobs.
Mr. Dib, who is also a board member at XL7, see the results as concerning because of its impact on the economy and families. It represents a net yearly loss of BR$ 5.6 billion in wages. But he is also is optimistic because the survey points to an inflection point. In other words, the worst part seems to be in the past and the job market is slowly recovering.
A new release of the survey will happen in march 2019.
